Tohoku University and National Taiwan University (NTU) have operated a joint research funding program since Academic Year 2026 to support collaborative research and exchange activities between researchers at the two universities. We are pleased to announce the call for proposals for the 2nd round of the Joint Seed Fund for Academic Year 2027.

To apply, please review the application guidelines, consult with your partner researcher (PI) at NTU regarding your project proposal, and submit your application to the contact address provided below by the deadline. Please refer to the details below.

Application Period:

Monday, September 14, 2026 - Friday, October 30, 2026 (18:00 JST / 17:00 Taiwan Time)

Research Areas:

Applications from all fields are welcome, but proposals related to the following fields will be prioritized:

1. Semiconductors
2. Disaster Science

Funding Scale & Value:

• Awards: Maximum of 5 projects
• Value: Up to NT$200,000 (JPY 1,000,000) per project from each respective institution

Funding Period:

From Thursday, April 1, 2027 to Friday, March 31, 2028

*Note: Due to differences in the financial years of both universities the support period from either side differs. The NTU-side support period runs from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2027.
