Online Lecture to Examine Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction

Tohoku University's International Research Institute of Disaster Science will host an online lecture to coincide with Sendai hosting the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE). Two presentations will be followed by a panel discussion.

First, University of Notre Dame associate professor and WCEE keynote speaker Dr. Tracy Kijewski-Correa will deliver a lecture in English that discusses how to strengthen the link between disaster prevention research and its practical application.

Next, professor Akio Shimada from the School of Public Policy at Tohoku University will outline the state of recovery in the Tohoku Region 10 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake. The panel discussion centers around post-disaster reconstruction efforts, the differences between Japanese and overseas systems, and proposals for moving forward.

The second lecture and panel discussion will be conducted in Japanese.

The event is free of charge, but registration is required.
