Overcoming Infectious Diseases Seminar

The Tohoku University School of Medicine is hosting a seminar that delves into Japan's unorthodox approach to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite not implementing stringent lockdown measures, the death toll and infection rate were less than that of countries in Europe and North America.

Tomoka Nakamura, a PhD candidate at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Nagasaki University, will present her research findings based on surveys aimed at understanding how the Japanese population modified its behavior during the pandemic. Using epidemiology and mathematical modeling, she will provide evidence on the importance of reducing contacts and taking proper precautions to lower disease transmission.

The event will take place online and is open to all. Registration is required.
