Tohoku University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Symposium

Tohoku University will be hosting a symposium titled "Towards an Engaged University Through Diversity, Equity and Inclusion." This event - which is part of Tohoku University's 115th anniversary celebrations - will include keynote speeches by renowned experts in the field, as well as panel discussions.

Since its founding in 1907, Tohoku University has strongly advocated an "open door" policy of accepting students and faculty from a wide variety of backgrounds. Notably, in 1913, it was the first university in Japan to admit female students.

In efforts to further promote gender equality and diversity and reduce the gender gap on campus, the university released the Tohoku University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Promotion Declaration on April 5. This symposium will explore ways to achieve the goals set in the declaration.

Teruo Fujii
(President, The University of Tokyo)
