Navigating his way to Norway

Second year science student from Tohoku University, Takatsugu Kobayashi, will represent Japan at the 2015 Junior World Orienteering Championships in July. The championships will be held in Rauland, Norway.

Kobayashi was selected for Norway after winning the under-20 category of the Japanese National Competition on April 29.

Kobayashi was an orienteering rookie when he entered university, but has since discovered that he has a talent for the sport.

Members of the Tohoku University Orienteering Club hone their orienteering skills by training on weekdays, attending practice sessions on weekends and participating in orienteering meets held around the country.

The club is seen as a powerhouse at the national level, and its members have been among the top six finalists at the Japan Collegiate Orienteering Championships every year.
