Visit from the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata

On April 15, Sun Dagang, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata, visited Tohoku University and held discussions with President Hideo Ohno, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, who is director of the Tohoku University China Office, and with Professor Mitsuo Ishii, who is assistant director of the China Office.

The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata is also responsible for Miyagi, Fukushima and Yamagata prefectures, and Consul General Sun has been the region's consul general for two years.

Although this was the first time that President Ohno and Consul General Sun had met, they connected easily and spoke about the achievements of the many Chinese students, educators and researchers enrolled at Tohoku University. They also discussed the promotion of future exchanges between China and the Tohoku region.

After the meeting, Consul General Sun travelled to Kawauchi Campus and attended a round-table meeting and seminar with Chinese students currently studying at Tohoku University.
