University of California Riverside Delegation Visits Tohoku University

A seven-member delegation from the University of California, Riverside (UCR), led by Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox, visited Tohoku University on April 24, 2015.

Chancellor Wilcox and President Satomi, together with their senior staff, had a meeting to discuss plans for more cooperation between the two universities.

The UCR delegation then took a tour of Tohoku University, visiting the New Industry Creation Hatchery Center and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science. Members also participated in discussions at the Graduate School of Arts and Letters, the Graduate School of Economics and Management, and the Graduate School of Engineering.

Tohoku University and the University of California concluded an exchange agreement in 1990, and enjoy a close relationship.

Since 2010, 387 Tohoku University students have gone to UCR on the university's Study Abroad Program. And an additional 32 Tohoku University students went to UCR in the last 2 years as part of the High School Bridging Program, which enables students entering via the Admissions Office Entrance Examination to go abroad.

Tohoku University and UCR are also linked by their home cities. Sendai and Riverside have been sister cities since 1957.
