Director of the University of California Tokyo Study Center visits Tohoku University

Tohoku University and the University of California have renewed their academic exchange agreement and discussed the possibility of further exchanges at a meeting in Sendai on August 6.

Miriam Wattles, Director of the University of California Tokyo Study Center, held talks with Tohoku University's Executive Vice Presidents Toshiya Ueki and Kimio Hanawa during her visit to Katahira Campus.

Also at the meeting were Kayo Takahashi, Manager of the Tokyo Study Center, as well as Tohoku University's Associate Executive Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi, Professor Yoshitaka Kasukabe (Global Learning Center), Director Takeshi Wagatsuma (Student Exchange Division) and Director Yasushi Wagatsuma (International Exchange Division).

The day before the meeting, Director Wattles attended the closing ceremony of a student exchange program and met with participating students from the University of California. She also visited Tohoku University's Library and viewed items in the valuable Kano Collection.

The main administration of the University of California is located in Oakland, California. The university has ten campuses (in Berkley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angles, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Merced). Like Tohoku University, the University of California is well known for being a public university that puts a strong focus on research.
