On February 10, representatives from Novosibirsk State University and Far Eastern Federal University, which maintain university-level academic exchange agreements with Tohoku University, visited Sendai and paid a courtesy call to executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki.

EVP Ueki said "It is always a pleasure to meet representatives from our Russian partners at Tohoku University's annual Japan-Russia workshop. I expect that this year's workshop will help deepen our exchanges and I look forward to even more development in the future." Professor Hiroki Oka of the Center for Northeast Asian Studies, who also attended the meeting, added, "This year's Japan-Russia workshop is the first occasion on which Far Eastern Federal University has had the opportunity to attend.
