Start of Spring Semester Classes to be Delayed(Updated March 27)

(Note: This article has been updated to reflect that classes for ALL students will be delayed.)

Classes for the spring semester were originally scheduled to begin April 8. But due to the spread of the coronavirus around the world, and the global nature of our student population, the university has decided to move the start of classes to April 20.

General orientation for new students has been moved online (more information will be provided later), while faculty-specific orientation will be held on the week of April 13.

Students should check the website of the faculty or graduate school relevant to them (see below), for more information.

Note that the daily situation is fluid, and there may be other late changes, so students are encouraged to check back frequently.

For safety reasons, most university events scheduled for April have also either been canceled or postponed.

- The special seminars for new Japanese students have been cancelled. Materials will instead be available online on the Tohoku University Internet School (ISTU) system from April 13.

- The mandatory health examination for all new students - usually conducted in early April - has been postponed to May. Exact dates will be announced later on the Health Management Center website.

- The TOEFL-ITP® test for first-year undergraduate students, previously slated for April 18, will also be postponed to May 23, 2020. Further details, including the new test date, will be announced soon.
