Hideo Ohno, an internationally renowned physicist, has been selected as the 22nd president of Tohoku University. He will succeed Dr.Susumu Satomi who has headed the university since 2012.
A professor of spintronics, Ohno currently serves as the director of the Research Institute of Electrical Communication and a vice president at Tohoku University.
Appointed a professor at Tohoku University in 1994, Ohno holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo. He spent time as a graduate student at Cornell University and was a visiting scientist at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center from 1988 to 1990.
Professor Ohno will take office in April 2018 and serve until March 2024.
