Hideo Ohno, an internationally renowned physicist, has been selected as the 22nd president of Tohoku University. He will succeed Dr.Susumu Satomi who has headed the university since 2012.
Professor Ohno currently serves as the director of the Research Institute of Electrical Communication and a vice president at Tohoku University. He is a professor of spintronics and was a possible candidate for the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011.
Appointed a professor at Tohoku University in 1994, Ohno holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tokyo. He spent time as a graduate student at Cornell University and was a visiting scientist at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center from 1988 to 1990.
Professor Ohno will take office in April 2018 and serve until March 2024.
