Job Description

WPI-AIMEC has established three research clusters to promote interdisciplinary and international collaborative research aimed at addressing AIMEC's five Grand Challenges (GCs). Rather than serving as fixed organizational units, these clusters function as flexible, cross-cutting research platforms that encourage open participation, interaction, collaboration, and integration among researchers from diverse fields.

Applications are invited for six to seven AIMEC Researcher or AIMEC Postdoctoral Researcher positions to support research activities across the three clusters.

Qualifications

AIMEC Researcher:
    • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a closely related field of research or technological development.
    AIMEC Postdoctoral Researcher:
    • Applicants must have obtained, or expect to obtain, a Ph.D. in a related field by November 1, 2026.
    • Additionally, no more than 5 years may have elapsed between the end of the fiscal year in which the applicant obtained their Ph.D. and the effective date of employment.

      *For an appointment beginning on November 1, 2026, applicants must have obtained their Ph.D. in or after April 2021.

    WPI-AIMEC is an alliance-based WPI research center that brings together Tohoku University's strengths in fundamental research and higher education with JAMSTEC's expertise in marine research and advanced computing platforms.

    The center promotes cutting-edge interdisciplinary research to better understand and predict how marine ecosystems respond and adapt to environmental change. It also supports the development of researchers who can contribute internationally.
