Overview

The Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC) elucidates the basic mechanisms of aging, from the birth of life to development, maturation, aging and death.

By applying obtained research results, we are developing cutting-edge prevention, diagnosis, treatment methods and innovative medical devices with the aim of overcoming age-related brain and neurological diseases such as dementia and intractable cancer. Furthermore, as a core research center in aging medicine, we will conduct leading international collaborative research to become a world-leading research center.

We welcome applicants who, in line with the mission of the institute, are engaged in aging research with the goal of elucidating aging mechanisms and overcoming age-related diseases through modifying those mechanisms. This open call is part of Tohoku University's plans to strengthen its research system as Japan's first University for International Research Excellence.

Employment Type

Full-time (tenure-track)
The tenure-track term will be 5 years, and a tenure review will be conducted within the first 4 years of appointment. Candidates that successfully pass the review will be hired as tenured faculty members (Distinguished Associate Professor or Distinguished Professor)

Compensation

Annual salary system (approx. 8 million to 9 million JPY annually). Other details determined in accordance with university regulations.
A budget of 7 million JPY for hiring support staff and 2 million JPY in research funding will also be provided annually.

  5. Copies of major publications (up to 10 papers). Please include summaries and key highlights for three publications you especially wish to emphasize (approximately half a page each).

Candidates that successfully pass the document screening may be asked to give a presentation. This may be conducted online or in-person on campus. If conducted in-person, interview-related travel expenses will be borne by the candidate.

This network comprises three nurseries: Kawauchi Keyaki Nursery school (capacity: 22) and Aobayama Midori Nursery school (116), both open to all university employees, as well as Hoshinoko Nursery school (120), which is open to employees working at Tohoku University Hospital.
