COVID-19 Prevention: Entrance Ceremony Cancelled

With health authorities recommending social distancing to prevent the coronavirus from further spreading, Tohoku University has made the decision to cancel the Spring Entrance Ceremony, which was originally scheduled for April 3 at Kamei Arena Sendai.

Instead, a message from University President Hideo Ohno and other important orientation information will be posted on the university website.

As announced last week, the graduation ceremony scheduled for March 25 at Kamei Sendai Arena will also not be held. There will instead be a small, closed door event with a select group of student and faculty representatives. That event will be broadcast live.

Details of the broadcast, as well as how to graduates can receive their certificates, will be announced closer to the date.

The decision to cancel both the graduation and the entrance ceremonies was not taken lightly, but with the safety of our students and staff in mind.
