The 2026 UPWARDS Summer Program was held at Tohoku University from July 29 to August 7.
Organized by S-Hub (Tohoku University Semiconductor Creativity Hub), the initiative is part of a U.S.-Japan partnership among universities and companies that aims to advance the semiconductor industry and cultivate global talent to support its future.
Ten students from member universities in Japan and the U.S. came together to participate in the program's practical and multifaceted curriculum, which included hands-on training and lectures at Tohoku University's world-leading semiconductor research facilities, a visit to Tokyo Electron Miyagi, a special lecture by Micron Technology Inc., and a DEI workshop.
Through partnerships such as this, Tohoku University will continue to contribute to fostering the next generation of highly skilled semiconductor professionals who can excel on the global stage.
*UPWARDS: U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors. The initiative's founding members include Micron, the National Science Foundation (NSF), Tokyo Electron, and 11 universities from the U.S. and Japan, including Tohoku University. Together, they collaborate on cutting-edge semiconductor education to provide learning opportunities for students and promote new research activities.
