On May 28, 2026, a delegation from Université Paris-Saclay, including Vice-President for International and European Affairs Professor Delphine Placidi-Frot, visited Tohoku University. They met with several university representatives, including Executive Vice President Professor Masahiro Yamaguchi, who is responsible for International Strategy and Global Education Initiatives, along with the Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Science.
Tohoku University and Université Paris-Saclay concluded a university-level academic exchange agreement in 2020, through which they have maintained researcher and student exchanges.
Meeting with Université Paris-Saclay delegation
During the meeting, representatives from both universities enthusiastically discussed ways to deepen joint research and further strengthen their partnership. The Université Paris-Saclay delegation also expressed strong interest in accepting more Tohoku University exchange students and in establishing a more flexible system to support such exchanges.
Prior to the meeting, the delegation visited the Smart Robots Design Lab at the Graduate School of Engineering, where joint research has already produced tangible results. After attending a presentation on cutting-edge research in human-assist technologies, including caregiving robots, they toured the laboratory. As students explained the functions of each robot, the visitors asked questions enthusiastically and interacted directly with the robots. The tour fostered a jovial atmosphere throughout.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the two universities and promote exchanges across multiple fields.
