The 37th Tohoku University International Festival: Passport to the World

The Tohoku University International Festival (TUIF) - one of the most anticipated social events in Sendai with more than 3,000 people from all over the region attending every year - is back this October as part of Homecoming weekend.

Organized by the Tohoku University Foreign Students Association (TUFSA), the theme this year is "Passport to the World," which celebrates the university's "Open Doors" philosophy and its emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Festival go-ers can collect "passport stamps" as they experience the sights, sounds and taste of the different cultures at the food stalls and interactive booths.

Date: October 12, 2025
Time: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Venue: The lawn in front of Tohoku University Centennial Hall (Kawauchi Hagi Hall) (map)
There will be no parking, so please use public transport. The nearest subways stations are Kokusai (International) Centre and Kawauchi.

Entry to the festival is free but tickets are required for food and can be purchased at the reception area on the day of the festival. Tickets cost 1,500 yen for 3 coupons.

There will also be all-day entertainment with performances and interactive activities by student clubs and circles such as the Suzume Odori dance group, the Aikido Club, Sendai Swing Club and the African Association Miyagi (AFAM).
