Murasaki Sendai Hagi Award
Established in 2017, the award is given every year to outstanding female researchers at Tohoku University. Recipients are selected from a diverse array of academic domains, encompassing humanities and social sciences, science and engineering, agriculture and life sciences, as well as dentistry, pharmacy, and health.
Symposium and the Masataro Sawayanagi Gender Equality Award
The Masataro Sawayanagi Gender Equality Award, named after the inaugural president of Tohoku University who pionered the 'open door' policy, pays tribute to individuals who have played an active role in promoting gender equality. The university also holds various symposium centered around gender equality.

A Day to Commemorate Japan's First Female University Students

Every year, the Aoba Society for the Promotion of Science honors a select few female students with the Chika Kuroda Prize. Established in 1999, the award pays homage to Chika Kuroda's legacy and rewards those who have produced outstanding achievements throughout their studies. The award is open to female doctoral students enrolled in Tohoku University's Graduate School of Science and Graduate School of Life Sciences. This year marks the 25 years since the award’s inception, and 70 female students have been honored so far.
